Trex 500 NEW!

Published by admin under Blog

Hey guys, its been a while since I’ve had a chance to update my website with new material. Here is some new footage taken with my Trex 500 modified with a “new motor”, stock components on everything else. This setup is one of the most powerful setups I have ever flown and look forward to more testing with this motor! The videos have been posted on youtube for ease of viewing. Enjoy!

Post Vblades 600mm extreme tst and 2cell setup results

Published by admin under Blog

I got a chance to fly locally this weekend with my newly setup trex 600 nitro. The helicopter flies amazing; the new vblade extremes are very precise “poppy” blades and they are much faster on the cyclic and pitch compared to the previous versions. The direct 2cell lipo setup with the JR x9303 and the R921 receiver allows for a very high resolution that allows for exreme crack maneuvers and very precise flying. I feel I have a very good setup that can’t be changed much anymore.

Trex 600n Pro, all metal head, tail, metal fan

JR 8717s cyclic

JR 8900G tail

Spartan ds760 Gyro

Futaba s9254 throttle servo

May08 Trex 600 Modifications

Published by admin under Blog

I have yet again decided to upgrade my Trex 600 Nitro with some new equipment for a different setup. I choose to run a straight 2s lipo setup from the regulated 6v setup, a spartan ds760 with JR 8900G tail servo from the futaba gy611 and futaba s9256, and Vblades 600mm tst extremes from the radix 600mm stick banger blades, and of course a new canopy to support a newly upgraded helicopter.

So far the setup is; JR 8717s on straight 2s lipo, spartan ds760 with JR 8900g regulated to 5.1v via the spektrum stepdown box, model avionics rev max throttle jockey, futaba s9254 throttle servo and JR 2.4ghz R921 receiver. Trex 600N pro kit with all stock metal head, new swashplate and washout assembly, all metal tail, OS hyper 50 with align 50 pipe, gforce metal bearing blocks align metal fan, vblades 600mm extreme tst, vpaddles, stock align black carbon fiber tail blades.

Heres a picture of some of the stuff I got from Readyheli today!

Kong Powers

Published by admin under Blog

Kong power batteries are expanding from their popular 3cell 2200mah batteries to larger batteries for common helicopters such as the Trex 450, Trex 500 and Trex 600. They have also come out with their own charger and transmitter packs. Testing kong power batteries for quiet some time now, I really like the anti-puff technology and the “robustness” of the packs. Things such as charging at 3C and running the batteries till they drain were amongst many of the continual tests I have performed on these batteries. While doing this does not puff the battery, I do not recommend doing this on a continual basis as battery life has shown to deteriorate.

I am currently using Kong powers newest products; namely the 2500mah 6s1p long pack as shown below on my trex 500. I really like this pack as it provides lots of punch and increase in flight times compared to my 2200mah packs. On the kong power batteries you will start to find a table of numbers for you to check off after each flight. This was accomplished after feedback from kong power users so kong powers do listen to their customers! The Kong power charger unit is a very unique charger, simple as all others to use and can charge up to 6s lithiums and also nickle metal, nicad, and lead acid batteries! The specifications are listed on the charger in the picture below. There are also a few things that come with this charger including a PC interface (which I have not tried yet) and a few accessories including a temperature sensor for charging. Very neat and fun new toys that kong powers have come out with. Expect to see more as technology development is getting better!

Scorpion 1400kv Trex 500

Published by admin under Blog

I recently picked up a Scorpion 1400kv motor (HK3026-1400kv) for my trex 500. I was told that this was the most powerful series motor by scorpion for the trex 500 and after seeing some videos, the power looked very impressive. I used this motor with the Jazz 80-6-18 esc with 15t pinion and 6s 2200mah kong power batteries on a stock trex 500. The power was amazing but I did not believe that the motor was running at optimum so I also decided to pick up the scorpion esc for the 1400kv motor and I found that this setup worked very nicely. Temperatures by feel are similar to the stock motor with a slight increase in power. Batteries however did come down warmer than with the stock motor setup. I will try to get a video soon to show the difference between the stock setup and with the scorpion motor setup so you can visually compare the differences of stock versus the scorpion setup.

Trex 500 Static Lockout

Published by admin under Blog

The Trex 500 unexpectedly had some issues with people experiencing lockouts when flying their helicopters. I unfortunately experienced this during one of my flights; the helicopter would fly normally and sudden, all controls cease and the helicopter falls to the ground.

There have been many different solutions that seem to have fixed the lockout issues and from my testing, after making these changes, I have not had a lockout since. The changes I made include a metal tail case, grounding the motor to the negative end of the esc, using metal bearing blocks for the frame, placing the esc under the battery try up in the front, placing the receiver and satellite receiver in the locations as shown in the picture and finally, using silicone spray on the belt occassionally. So far I have not had any problems and the helicopter is flying great!

There are a few products which I have not tried yet that Gforce has created which is the static wick and the ESD plate.
